On our second episode of Get Fed, we had our first ever collaboration with Brenda from TSL! We headed to SMU to find out whether schools really lack good food options. We asked our IG followers for their recommendations and we were pleasantly surprised by the variety of food available!

Read on to see whats worth a try in SMU! (Psst...theres a special promo for you guys as well!!)

ONALU Bagel Haús

Onalu Haus serves up smoothies, smoothie bowls, baked desserts BUT they specialise in yummy BAGELS. Their bagels are made in-house from scratch and are only packed with high quality natural produce, so you know it’s good.

We tried their best sellers Somethin’ Fishy ($12), The Big Breakfast ($15) and The Classic B.E.C. ($11). Somethin’ Fishy is every salmon lovers dream as it was packed with salmon. However we felt that the fishiness was too overwhelming. The Classic B.E.C. was the perfect combination of sweet and salty, the Bacon and Maple Aioli perfectly pairs together.

This store was highly recommended by our followers and now we understand why! Our favourite had to be the Classic B.E.C which had simple ingredients that were well executed!

Park’s Kitchen

Park’s Kitchen is situated within SMU Connexion, surrounded by other South-East Asian delights. Each meal was conveniently packed into a rectangular box which is perfect for students who are always on the go! We got the Spicy Chicken ($6.80), Beef Bulgogi ($7.80) and a Kimchi Pancake ($5).

Their rice bowls were also generous in portion and was well balanced with carbs, protein and vegetables. (GYM BROS TAKE NOTE!!) What we liked and was most impressed with was their Kimchi pancake as it was filled with substantial ingredients and still crispy even when left out for a while.

The Tea Party Cafe

Many university students would be familiar with The Tea Party as they are widespread in almost every university. And they have been around for a long time even when Ben was back in polytechnic!

This store was Ben’s favourite pasta place back when he was still studying in Ngee Ann Poly. This was also back when their ever-so-popular Pinky Pasta was not even on their main menu yet and only the OGs knew about this secret dish. So of course we had to try their Pinky Pasta ($8.50) as well as their Bacon Arrabbiata ($8) and Bacon Aglio Olio ($6.50). The Pinky Pasta definitely stole the show here due to its uniqueness in flavour, it was a combination of cream and tomato goodness! Besides their huge portions and generous ingredients, every pasta came with a free Iced Lemon Tea which made it even more value for money.

Nasi Lemak Ayam Taliwang

Who wouldn’t love a comforting plate of fragrant Nasi Lemak after a long day of school? We ordered a set of Nasi Lemak Ayam Taliwang and topped up $0.50 for the Pandan infused Teh O ($8.30). Their Nasi was fragrant and was not lacking the coconut-y flavour, while the chicken was grilled to perfection. Their chilli, which paired well with the chicken, also packed a punch and left us (Ben) sweating. Not to mention that their Pandan Infused Teh O was out of this world, it was florally yet sweet. All of us were stunned by how delicious it was. However our only gripe was that they do not serve an iced version!!!

Ima Sushi

We can’t believe that in the heart of SMU would be a quaint Sushi restaurant . The restaurant looks rather unassuming from the outside, but their food told a whole different story.

We ordered the Volcano Chicken Karaage Don ($9.90), Kaisen Chirashi Don ($21.90), Aburi Mentai Salmon roll  ($13.90), SMU Dragon Roll ($16.90), Beef Stamina Roll  ($12.90), Chawanmushi ($2.80), Ikura Chawanmushi ($4.80) and Sashimi Moriawase ($25.90). What stood out to us most was the Volcano Chicken Karaage Don! Their karaage don is topped with a homemade spicy sauce which packs a punch. The sauce had a multitude of layers that left us puzzled (in a good way) and wondering what it was! The Sashimi Moriawase and Kaisen Chirashi Don consisted of their sashimi which really stole the show with how thickly cut and fresh they were.
