5 THINGS WE LEARNED IN SYDNEY
Don't Underestimate Mr Sun
Make sure to ALWAYS carry around sunscreen because Mr Sun is vicious! Ideally, it should be reapplied every two hours for consistent protection, especially after water activities or sweating. Basically UV rays are harmful for our skin, and due to Australia’s geographical location, higher UV radiation is exposed as compared to other continents. So please do not be like our crew, stubborn on not applying sunscreen… Now their skin is crusted, dusted, ROASTED!
Not just for Australia, but for other countries as well, it would be good to get a sunscreen of at least SPF 30. It is important that you apply it everywhere, especially on exposed areas such as your face. If you’re like the crew, who doesn’t like the sticky feeling that comes with sunscreen, there is always sunscreen spray. Have fun without letting Mr Sun age and harm our skin!!!

Parking Is SUPER Expensive
If you think owning a car in Singapore is expensive, gurrrlllll~ Parking alone cost us a few hundred for three to four days in Sydney. To be fair, we rented two cars but IT’S STILL EXPENSIVE (not to mention the $275 fine we received…) Additionally, not all hotels and accommodations provide complimentary parking. So unless you’re a mATerIAL gWORL, save yourself the trouble and don’t drive!!
If you’re planning to travel to Sydney, consider getting an Opal card (EZ-Link equivalent) or a debit/credit card with a tap-and-go function. If you’re travelling in a BIG group and not planning to get out of Sydney, maybe consider hiring a designated driver!

It's not just expensive parking, but expensive food as well...
Obviously, you won’t find hawker centres or kopitiams in Australia, so don’t go there expecting many cheap food options either. On average, a meal in Sydney costs about $15 to $20 per pax?? And you know us Singaporeans… We are A TAD BIT cheapskate…
So, what can we do? Well, the food there is indeed expensive, but the portions are big too! Maybe consider getting a portion and sharing it with a friend? Just like that, you would be able to split the cost in half and save money (more for shopping!!!). If you’re in Sydney, they have a Chinatown Friday Night Market which opens from 4pm to 11pm every friday. They have lots of street food options which are a favour to both your taste buds and wallet!

As the saying goes, “early bird catches the worm”! If you’re someone who always wakes up late, you might want to bring multiple alarm clocks on your trip… One thing about Sydney is that everything closes EARLY!! As Mr Sun says bye bye at around 5pm, there aren’t many activities for you to do by then. Not only that, most places would usually close by 8pm or 9pm.
So if you’re there, set as many alarms as you can and ensure you don’t waste your trip. Sydney is still a very fun place to travel to and you wouldn’t want to miss out!

Locals In Sydney Are Super Nice
This isn’t really something we learnt but it was something which stood out to us! Throughout our trip, there were many occasions where we felt the kindness of the locals there, such as… EXPERIENCING THE EASIEST LANE CHANGES OF OUR LIFE AS DRIVERS!!! Ahem… But besides that, the locals there are generally very friendly. We even gained a few friends during our trip!
So if there ever comes a time you’re unsure of something, or you need directions, feel free to check with the locals! Sure, they look tall and intimidating, but in reality they have a heart of gol- omg so cheesy…
